One of the great leaders and pioneers in peer counselling for university students, psychiatrist Vincent D'Andrea, died at his home in Atheron, California of lung cancer. Vince started The Bridge, Stanford University's peer counseling program for students in 1970, and although he had other teaching duties in the Stanford Medical School, The Bridge was really the love of his professional life and he was always open to new ideas and learning from his colleagues. "Few people know that they have the power to bless life. We bless the life in each other far more than we realize. Many simple, ordinary things that we do can affect those around us in profound ways: the unexpected phone call, the brief touch, the willingness to listen generously, the warm smile or wink. We can even bless total strangers and be blessed by them." Rey Carr Donations may be made in D'Andrea's name to the Ginetta Sagan Fund of Amnesty International, 500 Sansome St., Suite 615, San Francisco, Calif., 94111, or to the San Francisco Opera. |
