Mentoring 401: Peer Mentoring in the Corporate World
This one-day seminar includes two components: a theory and models component and a practical training component.
The focus of this workshop is on using peer mentoring to orient new and retain existing employees. The workshop introduces participants to the VIKES system to help new employees learn about the culture, mission, values, processes and structure of the organization, and maximize the opportunity for employees to gain or revitalize the knowledge, skills, behaviour, and attitudes associated with productive engagement within the organization
Expected Outcomes
As a result of reviewing the mentor principles and practices associated with a variety of settings, workshop participants will be able to:
- understand the differences and similarities between traditional mentoring, peer mentoring, coaching, counselling, managing, and supervising;
- describe the characteristics of effective peer mentors and learn how to make a peer mentor self-assessment;
- specify the components of a successful peer mentor program, including the five steps of the VIKES program;
- identify and reduce barriers to peer mentoring while increasing supports for mentoring;
- identify a customized peer mentoring approach for the back-home setting; and
- locate resources to support a back-home peer mentoring plan; and
- depending on participant interest, a special element will focus on the best practices of peer mentoring.

- Delivery of training sessions (including peer and leader feedback)

Credit and Certification
Participants who attend a complete workshop will receive a Certificate of Completion.Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit is also available through the Canadian Counselling Association.

Course Fee for 2009:
$1850.00
The fee for this workshop includes all instructional costs, resource materials, and nutrition breaks but does not include accommodation or meals.
